Title: The American Dream in Monochrome – A Review of Grand Theft Auto IV
Developer: Rockstar North Release Year: 2008 Platform Played: PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360 (Backward Compatible) / PC
Criticisms and Flaws
- Mission Design: The mission structure is dated. It relies heavily on the "drive here, shoot this, drive back" loop. Furthermore, if you fail a mission, you often have to drive all the way back to the mission start point, which can be tedious.
- Lack of Customization: Coming off San Andreas, which allowed you to get haircuts, tattoos, and gain/lose weight, GTA IV felt stripped back. You have very limited clothing options and zero character customization.
- PC Port: Historically, the PC version of GTA IV was notorious for poor optimization. While it has improved with patches and modern hardware, it can still be a headache to run smoothly compared to newer titles.
