SAPscript: Enabling the Legacy Text Editor in SAP GUI 7.70 (Hotkeys & Fixes)
Overview
Starting with SAP GUI for Windows 7.40, SAP introduced a new PC-like text editor (based on SAP Control Framework) to replace the classic SAPscript legacy editor (the line-based SE71 or SO10 editor with the blue/grey screen). By SAP GUI 7.70, the new editor is the default.
What's Changed?
- Confirm your SAP backend still has SAPscript enabled (standard in ECC systems).
- Install a compatible SAP GUI client version that supports the legacy editor functionality (obtain SAP GUI from your organization’s SAP Basis/admin team or from SAP Service Marketplace/Software Download if you have the appropriate SAP support entitlements).
- Access transaction codes such as SE71 (Form Painter / SAPscript forms), SE72 (text editor utilities) or SE78 for graphics — these launch the text editing UI for SAPscript text elements.
- If your environment blocks legacy UI components, request that your Basis team enable the appropriate GUI controls or install a GUI patch that restores legacy editor behavior.
If the legacy editor doesn't appear automatically after installation, you may need to check your system settings: sapscript legacy text editor gui 770 download hot
